Digital Horological booksA number of companies and organisations, such as Google, MSN and the Gutenberg Project are scanning out-of-copyright books and making them freely available on the internet. You could download them free of charge, but they can be hard to find, unless you know exactly what you are looking for. Having spent a large amount of time searching for, and downloading, books relevant to horology. I then decided to make them available on CD to members of my local branches of the BHI and AHS at a small charge. They proved very popular, so I am now extending the service.
"The Artificial Clockmaker" by William Derham, one of the first books on horology, was originally published in 1696. It describes a variety of calculations for horologists, together with chime tunes, a brief history of horology and more. Click here for the contents. A facsimile reprint was published in the 1970s, but even that is now rare and expensive. Here is your chance to own a copy of a wonderful little book in digital form. I scanned a copy of the fourth edition of 1759 into PDF files and copied it to CD, along with the Horological Plates from Rees' Cyclopaedia. Rees' Cyclopaedia was published in instalments between 1802 and 1820. The horology section is an informative summary of the clockmaker's art at the time. The text is not easy reading, but the plates are excellent. Some plates have been reproduced in other books and a facsimile reprint was published in 1970, but the plates reproduced here are scanned directly from the originals and show more detail than other reproductions. In addition I have included 31 other out-of-print and rare books downloaded from several sites on the internet. These are available free of charge if you can find them, but gathering them together here will save hours of searching. The price paid is for the books I have scanned - the rest are included as a free bonus! For just £12, including postage, you will receive two CDs, professionally produced and boxed, with all 33 complete books. Purchasers of the first edition should ask for an UPGRADE for £7 including postage. You wll receive a replacement for disc 2, with Derham and Rees included. Please place your order through my contact page. ContentsHorological digital booksDisc 1
