Test the meshing of the gears (depthing) and transfer the measurement to the clock plates.

I.

 

 

   Two wheels are set up in the depthing tool which is adjusted until they are correctly depthed with each other.

 

II. The distance between centres is transferred to the clock plate, using the pointed runners like a pair of dividers or compasses. Different runners are used in various ways.

 

 

 

 

III. Depthing tools are made in several sizes for clocks and watches.
