Ipswich Branch (no. 19) of the British Horological Institute was formed in May 1954.
Many changes have taken place over these 50 years, but membership has remained healthy, and a full programme of meetings, visits and social activities is provided for members throughout the year. We also possess a comprehensive library of Horological books for loan to members. A full catalogue of books can be downloaded.
E-books. For those interested in historical books, but without the budget to be a collector, Ian Coote has gathered together a collection of horologically related books available free from the internet. For a modest £5 (£7 by post), including a donation to branch funds, you can possess 2 CDs with facsimile copies of no less than 31 books. Click here for details.
In August 2004, to celebrate our 50th. anniversary, we mounted an exhibition entitled "ClockWatching" at Ipswich Corn Exchange on August 3-7, 2004, and we are now considering plans for the 150th anniversary of the BHI in 2008.
There are a few pictures of the exhibition here. A CD of the exhibition can be ordered from the secretary for £7.
We are always looking for new members, and we welcome amateurs and professionals alike. Contact the Secretary here.
