British Horological Institute

Ipswich & District Branch

Home Page

Ipswich Branch (no. 19) of the British Horological Institute was formed in May 1954.

Many changes have taken place over these 50 years, but membership has remained healthy, and a full programme of meetings, visits and social activities is provided for members throughout the year. We also possess a comprehensive library of Horological books for loan to members. A full catalogue of books can be downloaded.

E-books. For those interested in historical books, but without the budget to be a collector, Ian Coote has gathered together a collection of horologically related books available free from the internet, and scanned William Derham's "The Artificial Clockmaker".  For a modest £10 (£12 by post), including a donation to branch funds, you can possess 2 CDs with facsimile copies of no less than 33 books. Click here for details.

In August 2004, to celebrate our 50th. anniversary, we mounted an exhibition entitled "ClockWatching" at Ipswich Corn Exchange on August 3-7, 2004. We exhibited a number of items at the BHI 150th Anniversary Exhibition, and plans are underway to transfer our exhibits to Tymperleys Museum in Colchester.

Pictures of the 2004 exhibition can be found here.

We are always looking for new members, and we welcome amateurs and professionals alike. Contact the Secretary here.
